US Data Sources & Verified Registry Provenance
Complete provenance and classification standards for every statistical input, commercial study, and planning assumption utilized across our US pet financial tools.
How does Pet2gether classify and verify every data source used in the US edition?
We enforce a strict 6-tier taxonomy: Government, Official Statistics, Professional Association, Industry Association, Commercial Study, and Planning Assumption. Every data point in our engine displays its exact tier, ensuring users and auditors know whether a number is an industry benchmark or an internal scenario assumption.
| Source Name & Publisher | Source Tier | Sample Size / Scope | Primary Role in Engine |
|---|---|---|---|
| APPA National Pet Owners Survey (American Pet Products Association) | INDUSTRY_ASSOCIATION | ~95M US Pet Households; ~$158B–$165B Annual Spend | Macro demographic and annual spending benchmark |
| NAPHIA State of the Industry Report (North American Pet Health Insurance Assoc.) | INDUSTRY_ASSOCIATION | ~7.6M Insured Pets in North America | Accident & illness monthly premium benchmarks ($62.44/mo dog, $32.21/mo cat; $749.29/yr dog, $386.47/yr cat) |
| Synchrony Lifetime of Care Study | COMMERCIAL_STUDY | N = 4,861 US Pet Owners across all lifestages | Informs first-year planning ($1,051–$4,442 dog, $961–$3,072 cat) and lifetime ($22,125–$60,602 dog, $20,073–$47,106 cat) distributions |
| Pet2gether Planning Scenarios | PLANNING_ASSUMPTION | Internal conservative modeling assumptions | Age multipliers (1.2x, 1.0x, 1.3x, 1.5x) and ER reserve targets ($1,000–$2,500) |
Why are APPA and NAPHIA not labeled as official government data?
Because they are trade and industry associations, not government statistical bureaus. While APPA and NAPHIA provide widely accepted industry benchmarks, we explicitly classify them under the Industry Association tier to maintain uncompromising editorial truthfulness and E-E-A-T accuracy.
Are any US numbers converted from foreign currency exchange rates?
Never. Pet2gether strictly prohibits converting international pet expenditure datasets via foreign exchange rates. The United States pet market has independent clinical pricing, pharmaceutical regulations, and insurance mechanics; therefore, our US calculators rely solely on genuine US dollar datasets.
How can users or researchers submit data corrections?
Submissions can be directed to support@pet2gether.com with primary reference documentation. Our editorial board reviews industry releases biannually, updating published ranges and verification stamps on every guide.
